NCATS New Broadband Network + White Cloud

NCATS has finished deploying our new wireless network in Fremont, Hesperia, Newaygo, and now White Cloud! This new network expands our educational telecommunications network to provide Internet services to many homes that were previously out of reach.
(new 900 MHz service area as of 12/21/2009)
New features:
- Non-line-of-site Service: Our new network can provide service through trees and will cover a greater number of subscribers.
- Better Internet Phone and Online Game Support: With a more efficient technology for distributing bandwidth, our new network is designed with voice-over-IP services and online gaming in mind.
- Smaller Footprint: Smaller antennas and less cable, providing better esthetic options for home owners.
- Lower Install costs and faster speeds

This is just a reminder that many users are still getting their Internet access through their phone lines and dial-up modems. Though we hear less of this kind of services as the years go on, we understand that it remains the most economical and adequate service for many peoples Internet needs.
We at NCATS would simply like to reaffirm our dedication to providing this service at the highest standards. NCATS remains your local Internet service provider. When your modems are calling us, they are being answered right here in Newaygo County and connected shortly to the Internet. Our entire staff and support team are local residents and use the same service as our customers. This makes our service the fastest and most reliable type of service in the county. Please keep us in mind when considering yours or your friends Internet needs.
Please be aware that our dial-up Internet service has no install fee and can be configured right over the phone. Getting service or switching service is as easy as calling our help desk at 231-924-8872 and getting hooked up on the spot, no fees or credit cards required. We have rates as low as $5 per month for users with limited Internet needs and for unlimited access with no worry of additional fees is our annual plan. $160 per year gets you worry free access and live technical support. That’s about $13 per month, where we pass along the paper work savings right to you.

New Spam Filtering (cont)

For those users whom have ncats.net email addresses, check their email with a client like outlook express, and DO NOT use NCATS Internet service, please be advised. Once our new Spam filtering services are fully tested we will no longer be allowing users outside our network to send mail using our outgoing server without authentication. This has been a popular move by many ISPs to control and reduce Spam vulnerability. However, unlike many providers, we will be providing an alternative to continue using NCATS mail servers for sending email. For these special cases, please ensure the following:
(Only applies to non NCATS Internet users such as AT&T DSL or Comcast/Charter Cable Customers)
1: Set outgoing mail (smtp) to use port 587 instead of 25
2: Enable SMTP Authentication.

New Spam Filtering

NCATS has implemented a brand new spam and virus filter for all ncats.net customers. The new filtering is powered by Barracuda networks and will make use of both quarantine and blocking. You will be receiving notifications on a daily basis that will allow you access to spam filtering services. From there you will be able to sort quarantined email, turn the spam filter on or off, and adjust your personal block and allow lists.
The daily email will be from support@ncats.net with the name "NCATS Spam Filter"
